3 Tips for Photographing the Holidays

Making Memories

Most of my clients are moms, but even if you aren’t, you will likely be spending time with family this holiday season. Because I am a photographer, I wanted to give tips to help you take your holiday photos to the next level. No, I am not talking about posing every photo to make your family look sexy. Grandma may not appreciate that! But there are a few things you can do to make those already very special photos even more special! Whether or not you’re a professional photographer, here are some holiday photography tips to take your photos to the next level!

No Professional Equipment Necessary

One holiday photography tip is to not stress if you don’t have a fancy camera. Most of my family photos on this post I took with my film camera, not my fancy studio camera. There’s no need for a professional camera– a point and shoot, a consumer DSLR, or even a phone can look great if you follow these tips below. And really, it doesn’t matter what kind of camera you use because what matters most are those memories with your loved ones. Here are my favorite photography tips below that you can use right away this holiday season!

Get On My Level

Get a different perspective and get yourself and your camera down to your kid’s level// photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at boudoirbytracylynn.com St. Louis

Get a different perspective and get yourself and your camera down to your kid’s level. It makes for a more interesting view of the world and more flattering photos. Changing the level of your camera also shows more of the scene in your photo rather than just the floor.

Seize the Moment

Try to photograph and capture those fleeting moments– Grandma talking to the kids, Grandpa conversing with your husband or laughing with the family, and the kids enjoying some cookies. Soak it all in and get it all on your camera. Snap after snap.

Be sure to capture the special moments during the holidays// photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at boudoirbytracylynn.com St Louis

Trying to capture all of these memories on film hits close to home for me. My Grampy passed away in February of 2017 so last Christmas was the last one I ever got to enjoy with him. The photos we took from last year during the holidays are the most important photos I have. You never know when this holiday could be the last so be sure to capture the moments! Now please excuse me while I take a break to cry.

I miss him so much and I’m so thankful for the memories and those photos I have of him.

This, my friends, is why photography is so special and important.

Let There Be Light!

Natural light is your best friend in photography// photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at boudoirbytracylynn.com St. Louis

Find the light. This is my mantra in life! (and photography). Good light will always make for better photos. It can be from the christmas tree lights, the window light on Christmas morning, the light by the table on thanksgiving, the lamp beside your grandad’s rocking chair. Light is light. Use it!

Light is your friend in photography. Even if it isn’t natural light, find the light!// photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at boudoirbytracylynn.com St Louis

Enjoy it!

I hope you all have a great holiday season and enjoy the memories and as well as your photographs. While you’re busy capturing the moment, don’t forget to live in the moment and take time to enjoy great conversations and food! Holiday Healthy Eating Tips

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It’s the holiday season which means lots of fun, family and friend time, and delicious food. While it’s such a great time of year, it can admittedly be a bit stressful. Maybe we have decent habits throughout the year that all seem to come to a screeching halt as soon as the mashed potatoes come out or that decadent cheeseball and crackers come in plain sight. This is exactly why I want to share with you some holiday healthy eating tips from local expert, Gillian Becker.

Gillian’s Holiday Healthy Eating Tips

There are so many things I love about Gillian. She understands how bodies work and is all about helping you be strong, healthy, and feeling your best. I also love that she’s realistic– it’s not about starving yourself– you deserve to eat foods you love while respecting your health and your body. Here is some excellent advice for how to handle the holidays without stressing out.

Before the Party

  • Exercise the day of your event.
  • Bring a healthy dish with you to serve to guests at your holiday parties (fresh veggie platter, large mixed green salad, Cauliflower Fauxtatoes).
  • Eat a high protein snack with a small portion of fat and carbs before your event so that you don’t overeat when you get there. A good pre-party snack is a handful of almonds and a serving of nonfat Greek yogurt.

At the Party

  • Choose a smaller plate at the buffet tables at holiday events.
  • For every alcoholic beverage that you drink, drink one large glass of ice water.

You can still indulge…a little

    • Don’t fret over enjoying your favorite holiday indulgences but keep your portion size small. Remind yourself that it’s just as satisfying to have a few bites of your favorite holiday foods rather a large plateful.
    • Be a food snob! Don’t feel that it is your responsibility to sample every item at the Christmas buffet table. Enjoy small portions of the foods you truly enjoy and skip those that don’t appeal or that you can live without.
    • Remember that holiday events are all about the company you share the season with, not the food☺

The Next Day

      • Get back on track the day after your holiday event. Start the day with a green smoothie (handful of fresh spinach, handful of fresh Kale, juice of one lemon, 1 scoop vanilla whey protein, 1 pear, 2 tbsp nonfat Greek yogurt, filtered water).

You can still enjoy yourself without feeling guilty or totally derailing your body. And you’ll feel better! If you’re interested in connecting with Gillian, email her at beckerbuiltbodies@gmail.com. And for more advice, check out her Instagram.

Christmas Boudoir Session Inspiration From Boudoir by Tracy Lynn

Why a Boudoir Session is the Perfect Christmas Gift

Christmas Boudoir Session

Tis the Season

In a blink of an eye, it’s November and you’re now sipping your hot Starbucks out of the notorious holiday cup. Once you book your Christmas boudoir session as your special gift for your special someone, it’s time to think about ideas for your Christmas boudoir session. This is the fun part!

Fun Christmas Boudoir Session Ideas

When I’m envisioning Christmas boudoir session ideas for my clients, the goal is not to get too cliché but to get a little creative. We can still style a wonderfully Christmas feeling shoot without Santa outfits or holiday lights. To prep for sessions, I suggest that my clients bring in about four different outfits. For your Christmas boudoir session, there are some fun options you can bring with you!

Comfy Sweater Weather

Make sweater weather sexy and bring a comfy, oversized sweater, knit socks and a cup of cocoa.

Cozy for winter. Taupe thigh high stockings with button details with an off the shoulder, deep red/wine waffle long sleeve night gown. Elevated with black nails and matching wine lips//photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at boudoirbytracylynn.com St Louis

Deep Red Lingerie Set

Deep red lingerie is a sexy yet subtle way to get into the holiday spirit. St. Charles based Liviara, one of my favorite local vendors, has a gorgeous corset and lingerie set in Bordeaux, a deep rouge– perfect for your Christmas boudoir session.

Deep red bodysuit– perfect for a holiday boudoir session. //photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at boudoirbytracylynn.comSTL

His Shirt

Take one of your man’s shirts for that oversized look. Add in a tie paired with thigh high stockings or knee high knit socks that match to perfect your outfit.

Cozy Coverups

You can even forgo a full lingerie set for a few photos. Cover up with a fur throw (I love this one from West Elm and this one from Bed Bath and Beyond) and pearls for a sophisticatedly sexy look. Or a white scarf (both Target and Etsy have cute ones) with a red thong will create a beautiful contrast and truly give that holiday look.

Bodysuits are a perfect addition in your outfit rotation as they’re a slightly more modest counterpart of little negligées. While I’ve shot bodysuits for other occasions, I’m envisioning some more season-specific garments. A red, lace, long sleeved body suit, like this one from Forever21, would be perfect with white high heels with the classic touch of pearls. Or a more casual approach with a gray bodysuit would also be great for your holiday boudoir session with red high heels. Free People has a nice option in a lot of different colors or Aeri has a great assortment of cozy but cute winter bodysuits.

This black bodysuit makes for a pretty and comfy boudoir photo// photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at boudoirbytracylynn.com STL

Props

While I tend to not use many props in my sessions, there are a few that come to mind that would work really well!

  • The obvious choice, a Christmas tree! I already have this in the studio!
  • A dark red throw –I do already have a blue throw at the studio that would also look great.
  • Wrapped gifts in a classic, shiny gold wrapping paper.
  • A large coffee cup with “Cocoa” on it. Here’s a shot below of a cute mug that makes for a fun photo. Instead of a light pink, summery mug, I would try something like this cocoa find on etsy or a mug from a St Louis favorite of mine, Mrs Shoppe on Etsy.

Here are some ideas to get you started! There are so many ways you can make a boudoir session feel like the holidays. Getting creative with the styling and direction of my shoots is one of my favorite parts of a boudoir session.

Favorite STL Vendors– Part 1

In today’s economy, in a sea of large businesses, there’s a surge of local, small business and entrepreneurs coming to the scene. Not to get too much into economics here, but these big shops can lower their prices due to the large volume of products and services they produce. Even so, it’s so important to shop local STL to experience the unique services and products small business can offer!

Shop Local–

There are at least two advantages to shopping locally at small businesses. First, just because the prices are cheaper does not ensure the quality of the product or service. When you frequent a small business, you are the priority! You can get more personalized service and the owners are passionate for their craft or service. Second, your money, instead of trickling down a large business or corporate structure, goes directly to your preferred business owner and their community, vendors, contractors, etc. You can actually put a face to where your money is going and give your money to people you like for services and products you love! They may even have brand values that you believe in that makes your purchase even more special and meaningful. And if you love St. Louis like I do, you can support local business owners and invest back into your city!
Now that I’ve talked about why shopping local is important and advantageous to you, I want to highlight some of my favorite local vendors in St Louis. I have so many businesses that I love, the products or services and owners alike! So here is part 1 of my Shop Local STL series (because I have many more!)

1. Dr. Koo Premier Skincare

Dr. Michelle Koo is a board certified plastic surgeon and has been practicing for 23 years. She used her expertise to develop a skincare line using the finest ingredients and strives to give her clients the best skin they’ve ever felt. AND, she is totally committed to the St. Louis community! All of her products were designed, printed and fulfilled in St. Louis! Her hashtag is even #koointhelou.

I use her skincare line and it is AMAZING! I have switched from proactiv to hers and my face has done a 180. The redness/dryness/oiliness is gone, I am having fewer breakouts now than I did with proactiv. Overall my skin feels healthier. I highly recommend this, especially if you’re frustrated and tried a bunch of other products. Check out my previous post about my treatment plan to find out all about my treatment plan!

2. Savanah Summer Beauty

Savanah Moore is the beauty and the brains behind it all. She is one of St. Louis’ best hair and makeup artists and she has an extraordinary team. What’s special about Savanah Summer Beauty is that Savanah and her team do so much more than just wedding hair and makeup. Savanah offers special packages that offer all day styling for the bride so that she’s red carpet ready at all moments. When she’s not booked out for weddings, she and her team do flawless makeup, hair, and styling for special events, too. Savanah Summer Beauty also offers lash lifts that are not extensions but enhance your existing eyelashes and last 6-8 weeks!

3. Liviara

Liviara is a new lingerie company whose philosophy is to bring women edgy and luxurious lingerie to help them live unapologetically and feel sexy. Their mission of empowering women to feel beautiful and powerful really resonates with me and my business. I love the company but I also love the quality of their products and how beautiful they are. They pride themselves in the craftsmanship of their pieces as pieces are designed and sewn by skilled artisans in the US. While this brand is nationally renowned, Liviara is actually based in St. Charles, Missouri and everything is manufactured and designed locally.

I have had the pleasure of working with Liviara and shooting for them. Here you can see Vi rocking a lingerie ensemble, looking stunning as always. Liviara’s pieces are also popular and featured with some pretty big names, like Ariel Winter, Halsey, oh, and queen Beyoncé in her iconic pregnancy instagram post (the light blue panties are by liviara) This brand is high-end, artisanal, and has a great mission to help women feel their sexiest!

4. Pink Lemon Studio- Pole Dancing Fitness Studio

Locally owned and operated, Pink Lemon Studio’s mission is first and foremost to empower women to feel sexy and strong. This is St. Louis’ largest and premier pole dancing studio and offers some amazing classes. Beginners need not fear as there is a beginning pole dancing class. But it doesn’t stop at pole dancing fitness classes. Pink Lemon also has other dance fitness classes, yoga, lifting, and bootcamps for women of all shapes and sizes.

While Pink Lemon empowers women with fitness, there is a true artistry as they offer Aerial Arts classes like silks (when you see people hanging from silk fabric doing beautiful yogic poses), and hoops. They also offer acrobatic yoga which is so fun and a little hard to find in St. Louis. While Pink Lemon is a big deal, they are all so nice, friendly, and welcoming! I l love everyone at Pink Lemon! 5. There’s Moore To It Blog

There’s Moore To it is a blog written by one of my favorite St. Louisans, Maddie Moore. She writes very honestly and earnestly about all things food, fitness and lifestyle. Her writing style is really warm and personable and you can tell that she loves writing and sharing her expertise on all things St. Louis.

Maddie has visited the studio before and we had the most fun during her shoots! Not only is she gorgeous, but she is also so sweet. She partners with some amazing vendors in the area. And her recipes are healthy and out of this world good. She most recently teamed up with her bestie Carly to make ‘Fudging Chipfaced Cake’, launching a series of healthier desserts using protein powder and making it so delicious! To see more of Maddie, check out her instagram, too!

I’m so excited to share more about my favorite local shops in the area. Trust me, St. Louis has SO much to offer and I can’t wait to share more soon!

5 Things about Your Boudoir Session/ STL

So you are interested in taking the leap and booking your first boudoir session. Maybe you’ve seen some great boudoir sessions and you’re starting to envision yourself in the studio looking stunning and sexy. But you may have a few questions before getting started. I’m here to tell you that a boudoir sessions is worry-free and FUN and address 5 questions you may have wondered about your boudoir session.

Five things you may have wondered about your boudoir session–

1. Hair and makeup– Who does it how long does it take? How will she know my style?

My makeup artists are AMAZING. You can tell them what you are wanting and they will deliver! If you want, you can check out my Pinterest board for some inspiration to get you started. And I really recommend loose waves for hair. It screams sexy bedroom hair and that’s what we are going for here. You will get your hair and makeup styled up exactly as you want it in my studio before we start your photoshoot.

2. Who else will be there during the session?

Just me, the makeup artist and you. You can also bring a friend if you’d like, or book a session together and make it a girls’ day out! Occasionally I will have my next client in hair and makeup while we are shooting your session, but it’s no boys allowed in the studio!

3. Do I need to research poses for the session?

Nope! I have you covered here. I will pose you from head to toes, including your hair. I am bossy when it comes to posing, so be prepared to be sore the day after your session from arching your back and pointing your toes! Consider your boudoir shoot as your workout of the day. I promise it will pay off and you will look like your best, sexiest self!

4. How many outfits should I bring?

Depending on your session, 3,4, or 6. But I would recommend bringing more, simply because some outfits may photograph better than others! More is always better and then we can pare down from there if we need to. Check out my what to wear blog series for some ideas and inspiration!

Part 2 – Sexy
Part 3 – Plus Size

5. Will I be nervous?

Understandably, first being in the studio, you may be a little nervous but the nerves will wear off quickly, especially with the help of a mimosa! After the first outfit, most girls are feeling their sexiest and ready to rock the next outfit– once that mimosa kicks in and once you realize how amazing you look! It is easy to get comfortable in front of the camera when you have makeup and hair done and are feeling gorgeous and sexy! And I will show you some photos as we go along so you can know for sure that the images are looking great!

Favorite Boudoir Outfits// STL

We all know fashion changes every season.  It is hard to stay on top of the new trends. Thankfully, I have clients and friends who help me keep up. I noticed as the year progressed, even my favorite boudoir outfits changed with the trends.

Recent Favorite Boudoir Outfits

I am going to make this an ongoing series a few times a year.   With summer coming to a close, lets talk about the last 4 months of boudoir outfits.

Calvin Klein’s

Calvin’s and an oversized tee are my favorite. Many of my girls choose this boudoir outfit and I will never argue about it.  It’s classy and understated. I can’t photograph it enough.

Thigh Highs and Tanks

Thigh highs and tanks are even better if they have cute sayings on them.  “I just want to drink coffee, save animals, and take naps.” ME TOO!!  These colors are gorgeous and go very well in my studio.

Lacy Lingerie with a Classy Robe

There is something about this combination that I love. It’s feminine, shows off your curves and your legs, and screams boudoir. Pair it with classy heals and you have a gorgeous outfit.

Snapback and Denim

I am not saying everyone should go buy a snapback and denim shirt.  If this fits your personality and style, bring it.  This turned out perfect and completely showed off Makayla’s style.

Black on Black

This black scarf strategically placed and paired with black lace panties in this light gave me all the heart eyes.  Jennifer brought this outfit at the last second, and it turned out beautifully.  Other clients who show up with similar options have been pleasantly surprised as well!

Body Suits

Body suits will forever win for me.  I hope they never ever go out of style.  Ever. They lengthen legs.  Body suits hide flaws. They can be comfortable and sexy.  You can’t lose.

Crop Tops and Underwear

I love crop tops.  Literally love them. See the photo below for reasons why.  It’s fun and flirty. It’s sexy and powerful.  You have worked hard for your abs.  Show them off!

Satin and Lace Cami Short Set

Several clients have come with satin and lace cami and short sets. I can’t show you due to my privacy policy. I didn’t think I would like it.  You can get them at Victoria’s Secret or other lingerie boutiques.  I have several sexy poses for this outfit. On top of that, I would definitely wear this at home!

Boudoir Photography Privacy Policy//STL

A clear boudoir photography privacy policy is important considering everyone knows everything about all things. Social media has made this possible.  I want to assure you that your images are safe with me.  Rest easy knowing I will never show them to anyone without permission.

Boudoir Photography Privacy Policy

boudoir photography privacy policy//coffee cup//comfy outfit//photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//see more at boudoirbytracylynn.com//stl

I take my job as a boudoir photographer very seriously.  Your comfort is the main priority.  Discretion is something you should expect with boudoir photography.  Your career and your private life may depend on it.  I’m not going to be the one to jeopardize that.  Promise. Clients who choose to allow me to share their images sign a release form giving me written permission. If you are okay with your images being on social media/website, please bring it up at the ordering session.  🙂

Some clients love to have their images and the effort they put in shown off on social media and my website.  If you are one of these clients, I would LOVE to use your images.  I appreciate every client who allows this.

What if I only want a few photos shown?

That’s great.  Let me know which ones and I will gladly keep the private!  I will be forever appreciative as well. Several of the images I take may only show a part of the body.  The most private clients allow these to be shown as their privacy remains in tact.

boudoir photography privacy policy //privacy// long sleeve shirt/ black panties//photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//see more at boudoirbytracylynn.com//st louis

What is on the Release Form?

It says I have permission to share the images where I want.  I can use them on social media, my website, other forms of advertising, and competition.  If you choose to only allow certain images to be shown, we will add an addendum to the release form stating which ones you allow.  I follow that addendum to a tee.  I promise.

What about the digital downloads of the photos?

With the purchase of an album, digital files are included.  I upload these images onto an online gallery where you can download them.  The gallery is completely private.  I am the only one who has access to it and can share anything prior to emailing the client the link.  I know who logs into the gallery and when they last logged in.  The gallery expires after two weeks.  The client is to have downloaded AND backed up the images.  At expiration,  I delete the images from the online gallery.  They are backed up on my cloud and hard drives, but aren’t accessible to anyone except me.

Conclusion about the Boudoir Photography Privacy Policy

Honestly, if you really don’t want your images to be used, I won’t be offended or think less of you. My main concern is your privacy.  Don’t worry in the least about pressure to use them in my portfolio. 🙂 It won’t happen!

Need more reasons to do a boudoir photoshoot?  Check out Jennifer’s session here. She said this about her experience

“A friend referred me, and Tracy exceeded my expectations! She was very professional. Still to this day, she continues to carry herself with such professionalism. She knew I had never done anything like this before. Tracy greeted me with a hand crafted champagne glass filled with a light mimosa. Not to mention her studio was so beautiful! Tracy offers a lot of natural lighting which makes the quality of photos extra special. We worked and we worked hard! She stayed completely engaged and was patient with me the entire time. Ladies, I recommend Boudoir by Tracy Lynn. She will provide a great experience while still feeling safe and comfortable. Dignity in private💜.”

Girls’ Day Out Boudoir Photography Session // STL Boudoir Photography

We all know girls just want to have fun! This is what Vi had in mind when she booked with me for a STL boudoir photography session. She knew a girls’ day out would do wonders for getting away from the business and stress of work. So, she grabbed a few of her closest girlfriends and we had a blast while I was taking pictures and they were sipping on champagne; a day full of laughs and beautiful pictures!

About The Ladies

Vi Ho is who initially contacted me about the shoot. She’s a good friend of mine, and I knew from the start this would be a blast. She is a model and a jet-setter; she is bright & vivacious and knows what she wants! Her personality is so electrifying. It was exciting to have a boudoir session with her. She’s always been a supporter of mine, so I’m glad we were able to do this together. I’m also glad I got to meet her gorgeous friends!

First, there’s Ainsley; she’s a bombshell blonde who models, barrel races, and goes to school for being a chiropractor (that’s quite a resume!) We had a lot in common and getting to know her and the rest of the girls was a real treat. Next there was Kendra, who is an author who resides in STL. Don’t let her being a bookworm deceive you; she is charming and sexy all the way. Her gorgeous skin photographed so well! Alex and Madi are also from STL, and their fun and vivacious personalities really enhanced the whole experience from all of us.

The Shoot

We met in my Downtown St Louis, MO boudoir photography studio on Washington Avenue. It was a sunny, gorgeous day outside and the girls totally brought that in with them. Their sparkling personalities and awesome positivity was inspiring for me as a photographer. Our boudoir photography session started by passing out the champagne and snacks– we opted for delicious fruits. As the ladies began getting pampered and sipped on their champagne, I got to snap some gorgeous photos right of the bat.

As we eased into the shoot, we were all having a great time and it only got better! Not just one, but all of their confident souls shined brightly through the makeup, clothes, and whatever else could ever get in the way. This translated perfectly into some amazing boudoir photos! We moved to the rooftops to take advantage of the beauty of the day and got some great pictures up there as well. You could tell these girls really enjoy one another, and really needed a day to appreciate one another and just get away from it all! They got to don their Arch Apparel hats which brought a fun element to our boudoir photography session.

All in all, each girl got to unwind, let loose, and seize the day with one another. I got a lot out of the experience, too. After the shoot, they all went and grabbed dinner in Downtown STL together to round off their girls’ day out.

Why Book a Girls’ Day Out

Admit it: you work so hard for so long and are, in general, too hard on yourself. You don’t get enough “you” time, nor do you get to enjoy time with your girlfriends nearly enough. I believe in this day and age, it’s so easy to get caught up in life. The best way to unwind and get rid of lingering stress is to come to my studio and do a boudoir photography session. I mean it! You get away from the hustle and bustle; you really get a chance to find yourself and embrace your body and mind. If you’re doing it with a group, even better! You and your girlfriends can get together for cocktails, snacks, and a wonderful time together.

Check out my previous post about what services I offer for a party of ladies wanting to do a group boudoir session. Essentially, my service for parties includes many things: champagne avec une collation (champagne with snacks) and pampering, with time divided evenly between your party (for a 3 hour session). The price is $100 per girl with a minimum party of eight, but smaller parties for different prices are definitely negotiable. The experience, though, is what’s so very priceless. You and your friends will be so glad you did it. There is nothing that will shed the stress like shedding your clothes!

These reasons and more are why I truly believe everyone would get something out of a boudoir photography session. As you can see: Vi, Ainsley, Kendra, Alex and Madi had the best of times getting away from it all to come together for a day of fun and relaxation. And the results were stunning! I really loved getting to shoot my friend and supporter and can’t wait to work with her again. If you’re ready to book your session with your friends, or if you’re just wanting to book me for yourself, contact me here. I can’t wait to get to know you and your story.
