Hair and Makeup for your Boudoir Session

Some women are great at doing their own hair and makeup.

Then, there are women like me.

I rarely wear makeup, and I just recently learned how to curl my hair.

Beachwaver is a lifesaver, by the way. I cannot twist my wrist to make a curl. This thing does the twisting for you.

There’s a huge difference, though, in doing your hair and makeup for day to day life and doing it for photos.  Cameras pick up every imperfection you have, so great makeup and good coverage is important. It’s also important to contour well so your best features are shown.

Hair and makeup can make or break your boudoir session. This is why I include it as part of the session fee.  The hair and makeup artists I hire are AMAZING at what they do because they have been specially trained for hair and makeup for photography.

Why include hair and makeup in the session?

The main reason I include hair and makeup in the session is that it relaxes you.  You feel pampered and special while the makeup artist is doing your makeup. By the time she is done, you feel beautiful and are ready to rock your session.

hair and makeup//boudoir session//black bra and panty set//jewelry//silk robe//blowout bar stl//cream chaise lounge//see more at

My makeup artists know exactly how and what I need them to highlight to bring out your best features in your photos.  They are specially trained to apply makeup specifically for photography and their skills coincide with my photography vision so well.

Natural Makeup while still highlighting your features

The big thing to remember is that when you leave the salon, you are going to feel like you are wearing a ton of makeup, which you are.  Your boudoir photos are not going to show that you are wearing a lot though.  The camera won’t pick that up. They will look very natural and beautiful!

hair and makeup//boudoir session//blue bra//big hair//blowout bar stl//see more at

How should you wear your hair?

I think natural is best here, but this is totally up to you. If you go to the salon not knowing what you really want, the girls will do a soft wave, which looks great.  I have also had a few girls go in asking for second-day curls.  This is probably my favorite.  It’s so natural and messy and very fitting for boudoir!

hair and makeup//boudoir session//implied nude//blowout bar stl//cream chaise lounge//see more at

Starting the session with professional hair and makeup will set the tone for the rest of the session. You will feel beautiful, sexy, confident, and ready to rock your session,

Put your trust into my girls, Kendra and Kat, so you can get the entire session experience.  I promise the results and experience is worth it!

Accessories: 7 Ideas for your session

For the past few years, I have been anti- accessories for boudoir sessions.

I’m changing my stance today. I now feel accessories can take your boudoir outfit to the next level.

With that being said though, I still think there are some rules to follow when finding accessories for your boudoir session.

So today, let’s talk about the rules for accessories for boudoir session outfits and seve different options for accessories.

accessories for boudoir photo//coffee cup// bra// glasses//white sheets//curves//blonde hair//plus size woman boudoir photo//see more at

Rules for boudoir session accessories

My biggest rule about accessories is for necklaces. I love them, but at the same time, some poses with necklaces are hard. When we are doing laying poses, they can sometimes look as though they are choking you. The clasp will end up in front, so we have to watch it constantly.

As for heels, they HAVE to be very tall, at least four inches, or we might as well not use them. You don’t want kitten heels when you’re trying to be sexy!

Don’t forget your engagement ring if this is a wedding present. It WILL be missed in the session.

7 options for accessories

1.Heels. I feel like this is an obvious choice.  Good heels are going to lengthen your legs and make your calves look great.  Don’t worry if you aren’t good at walking in them.  You won’t have to walk far.

I have black stilettos in the studio in multiple sizes for those of you who don’t have any at home.

You can’t go wrong with black or nude heels.  If you want to go all out, get these Louboutin heels.

2. High socks with your bodysuit or a sweater and lace panties is something I love.  I haven’t decided if this is a trendy thing yet or not, but I’m going with it because it’s adorable and sexy at the same time. I love these thigh high socks that are on Amazon Prime right now.

accessories for boudoir photo//black lace bodysuit//thigh highs//white socks// blonde hair// boudoir photo//see more at

3. Pearls are classy and necessary accessories if you are going for a timeless look! I don’t think they make or break your photos, but they do give you something to do with your hands. Unless you are someone who wears pearls often, I think you can get away with this imitation pearl necklace.

4. I love coffee cups, especially the ones with cute sayings on them, like “hello gorgeous“, “future mrs.”, or “does this ring make me look engaged?“, etc.

accessories for boudoir photo//hello gorgeous//coffee cups//white crop top//lace underwear// boudoir photo//see more at

5. Hats and caps are tough.  They can cover the light on your face, which is something I don’t love, but with a little adjusting, we can make it look beautiful. 🙂

6. Jewelry, in general, is difficult just because it doesn’t lay right if you are in a pose laying down. Usually, if an outfit really calls for jewelry, we will photograph some sitting or standing poses.

accessories for boudoir photo//long jewelry//silk robe//black bra and panty set// boudoir photo//see more at

7. Although I never wear bracelets in real life, I love them in boudoir photos. They feel so classy.

A few exceptions

Guns. With prior approval of me, we can make this work, but the gun HAS to be unloaded obviously.

Food I’m okay with! Just let me know what you’re bring prior to the session, so we have a posing plan.

Glitter. Just no. Absolutely not. I’d rather jump off my building.

Confetti. I’d rather not. I’m still picking it up from a session 2 years ago.

No matter what, though, if certain accessories are important to you, or to him, we can make them look beautiful in the images.

“I’ve always thought of accessories as the exclamation point of a woman’s outfit.”

9 boudoir outfit tips You don’t want to miss//St. Louis, MO

The most asked question at boudoir session consults is “what outfits do you recommend”. I usually send clients the link to my What to Wear series, part’s 1, 2, 3, but I think, since it’s been a bit, it’s time to update for 2019. I have so many updated boudoir outfit tips, so be ready to take notes!

boudoir outfit tips//gray sweater//boudoir photo//nuetral makeup//pink lips//eyelash extensions//photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

Size Matters

I think the most important thing is to make sure your outfits, especially your bra and panties, fit correctly.  Some important boudoir outfit tips to note:

  • You want your underwear to be about 1 size bigger than you normally wear. I think most women(or maybe it’s just me) tend to want to fit in the size they wore in high school or college. You don’t want the lace to look stretched or to create a muffin top.  An even worse situation is when you spent the money for Calvin Klein underwear and the letters are stretched out!
  • Make sure your bra fit is flattering as well.  While I do love bralettes, they aren’t flattering to all body types, especially if they don’t hold the girls up.  You also want to make sure that when you lie down, your bust stays in the cups/fills them out.  Padded bras are great in most situations, but some poses may be better with non-padded bras (more lacy maybe), so be sure to bring several different bra types.

boudoir outfit tips//white lace lingerie//moody boudoir photo//photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

One of my main boudoir outfit tips for bodysuits is to find a bodysuit that is high waisted. It will give the illusion that your legs are several inches longer than they are. Most thong bodysuits are high waisted, so look for those.  If you can find a body suit to show off side boob, that’s a win as well! My favorite places to find these bodysuits are Forever21 and Urban Outfitters.  Both places have the bodysuits that meet my criteria for the perfect boudoir outfit.

Pair them with an off the shoulder sweater, a jacket, or maybe a button up to really knock this outfit out of the park!

boudoir outfit tips//pink body suit//sparkly shoes// navy velvet couch//lavendar hair//moody boudoir photo//photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

When clients ask for boudoir outfit tips, I usually mention sweaters! I really love off the shoulder sweaters/ tees. There’s so much potential to make the images look more fashionable here.  There are a few pointers to remember with this one though.  You don’t want the sweater to be too large or bulky.  If they are, this ends up making you look and feel bulky. The lighter sweaters/tees/henley’s are actually better for boudoir outfits because they allow for more movement. I love pairing sweaters with thigh high knit socks.  The cozy looks always makes a girl feel great about herself!

Crop Tops

I LOVE that crop tops are in now. They can be so fun to photograph with so much potential in boudoir.  This won’t work for everyone, but some women can get away with showing under boob with crop tops, which from what I hear, is considered really sexy by guys.  You have to have the right bust for this though!

Crop tops are easy to work with and still shows enough skin to make you feel sexy.  I like the looser tops usually but it’s always best to bring more options than less.  The only time I will really recommend the tighter crop tops are if we can get away with showing under boob!

boudoir outfit tips//thigh high black heels//white crop top//hair extentions//moody boudoir photo//photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

A pretty silk or lace robe really makes a girl feel sexy.  There is so much you can do with a robe during your session. From wearing it like normal, holding it off your shoulders, maybe giving the camera a look over your shoulder (don’t worry I will help you get that “look”), and strategically covering the areas that you want covered, robes have so much potential.

boudoir outfit tips//white lace lingerie//white lace robe//bridal boudoir photography//moody boudoir photo//photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

I think this outfit choice scares a lot of women.  Just remember, I’m a woman, too.  It will just be the two of us in the studio, and we are going to cover the areas that need to be covered! Implied nudes can really show off your femininity, curves, and your confidence, which is the sexiest trait of all. Trust me, these images will end up being some of your favorites!

boudoir outfit tips//White sheets for an implied nude // photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

High Heels

A lot of my clients tell me they aren’t comfortable walking in heels.  I’m not making you walk in them, so no worries. But we will pose in them. The main criteria for heels for boudoir photography is to be sure they are 4-5 inches tall.  Pumps are the best because they add a few extra inches to your legs when you stretch out and point your toes, and they make you feel beautiful.

I also love ankle booties with heels with the right outfit.  I seriously love this outfit. The sweater paired with these booties my clients just happened to wear to her session ended up being my very favorite photo from her set of images.

boudoir outfit tips//A shot with just legs– get the look with a crop top, black lace panties, and tan patent heels// photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

Accessories can make or break the outfit.  A set of pearls is not going to go very well with your man’s huge Blues Jersey (which I don’t recommend anyway, but you get the point). It would look great with a silk robe, thigh highs, and a lace bra and panty set though.  What I am getting at here is be logical with your accessories.

Necklaces work with some poses, but not for all. I love when some chunky (pretty but not gaudy) jewelry falls around the cleavage.  It feels so classy! We will dive more into this in the accessory blog post to come, but I wanted to toss out some ideas!

Earrings can be too much if they are too dangly.  Simple is better with earrings, especially if you are pairing them with a necklace. Stick to gold hoops, diamond studs, etc.

Other Boudoir Outfit Tips

When you wear something sporty, maybe add some lace underwear in the mix to make it feel a bit sexier.

I know we have a lot of Blues fans in St. Louis, and some girls want to wear the jerseys.  I would recommend going with a fitted tee with the logo instead.  Those hockey jerseys can swallow you up since they typically aren’t fitted, which means they aren’t very flattering to a woman’s body! Boudoir photography is specifically to show off those curves after all!

Think about pairing your sporty outfits with a pair of thigh high knit socks or even thigh high stockings. Your man is sure to love this idea!

There are so many options for outfits.  The more outfit options you bring to the session, the better. I can help mix and match during the session!

Outfits for 2019 Boudoir Sessions

Fashion is continuously changing, which means my what to wear guide for boudoir outfits needs to change, too. Thankfully with boudoir, it’s a minimal change, so you can still check out some of my previous what to wear posts.

Boudoir Outfits

There are a lot of things that are still the same from what I recommended before as far as outfits go, but there are things that have changed as well.  I’ll cover both. 🙂

Things that have stayed the same.

Cheeky underwear, thongs, and high heels are still a must in the lineup for boudoir outfits. Be sure your underwear are about one size too big to prevent those skin indentions. Your high heels need to be really high!

black lace underwear//white fur rug//monkey shoulder whiskey/boudoir outfits//Photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at

Body suits are still my favorite to start the session off with a bang. The biggest thing to watch is to make sure they fit well, not too tight or too loose.  You also want to be sure they are thongs or cheeky with a high leg line. We want those legs to look super long!

pink body suit//tan strappy heels// white rug//blue velvet chair//boudoir outfits//Photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at

I still love off the shoulder baggy sweaters with thigh high socks and Calvins, but I also love the same baggy, off the shoulder sweater paired with heels and lace underwear.  Both options look super classy and beautiful.

A timeless option is borrowing your man’s button up shirt and pairing it with sexy lingerie and thigh high stockings and heels.  Maybe grab some pearls or his tie as well.

White sheets are still a big favorite of mine.  These photos are always a hit with clients!white sheets//boudoir outfits//Photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at

Things that have changed.

Probably my favorite thing, which isn’t really a change in the lingerie/fashion world, only in my shooting arsenal, are silk or lace robes.  I love that it gives you something to do with your hands. It also covers up areas you may not want to show, plus it looks timeless and classy.

silk kimono// chunky jewelry//boudoir outfits//Photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at

Jewelry can be a nice touch, especially pearls.  I was always anti jewelry before, but if we pose you just right, jewelry can look super classy.  Pearls are always a timeless addition!

black body suit//pearls//big jewelry//boudoir outfits//Photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn//See more at

Soft/neutral colors are still a favorite in the studio, but I’m liking bold colors now as well.  A big thing is to stay away from really bright colors.

No matter what, the photos will be amazing, so don’t worry.  I have a lot of experience posing different types of clients and different types of outfits. Preparing your outfits is just a small step in the process!  For more tips, check out this post.

Boudoir Photos and Tan Lines

Tan lines are something that causes worry for most women prior to their summer boudoir sessions.  Vacations, lake or pool days, and summer activities all contribute to those lines. The good news is there are ways to cover them!

In May, I spent quite a bit of time discussing tanning for boudoir sessions.  Aside from prevention, the best way to cover tan lines is booking a session with tanning specialist, Missy, from Just Fakin’ Tans.

how to fix tan lines for your boudoir session//pineapples//spray tan//see more at photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn of STL.

Spray Tans are your best option.

A few weeks ago, I had my first spray tan with Just Fakin’ Tans.  Hands down, it was the best spray tan I have ever had! The mini contour was my favorite part, but on women with actual muscles it would be even better.

Missy is trained by the best in her industry, and it’s very obvious that she takes her art seriously.  This is the most even spray tan I have EVER had and she is prepared for ANYTHING you may need, from a hair tie to caps to cover your hair, or even sticky sandals for your feet.

While getting spray tanned, Missy mentioned I had a few tan lines also, which honestly is a surprise to me because I don’t tan well at all.  She spent extra time specifically working on her magic on my tan lines.  By the time she was done, it looked like I had the most even tan ever!

how to fix tan lines for your boudoir session//flower bodysuit//outdoor boudoir photo//spray tan//see more at photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn of STL.

But what if you have intense tan lines because you spend all summer outside?

I specifically asked Missy this question. She said it’s no problem at all and the solution easily masks tan lines, whether it’s for a boudoir session, your wedding, or just to feel better about yourself! She granted permission to spend your summer outside enjoying life instead of inside preventing tan lines.

Don’t forget that SPF though!

Even though you now officially get to set your worry aside, don’t forget to wear your SPF, please.  Let’s prevent skin cancer and early aging of your skin. 🙂

Spray Tan St. Louis- Just Fakin Tans

May is skin cancer detection and prevention month.  I am VERY anti-tanning (hence my very pale skin tone), but I do love that glow of a tan in boudoir photos.  Because of this, I am a HUGE fan of spray tan for your St. Louis boudoir photography session.  This makes me different than a lot of boudoir photogs, but I love that glow of a tan in photos.

St. Louis, MO’s “Just Fakin’ Tans” Spray Tan Company

I met Missy of Just Fakin’ Tans a few weeks ago. She is a Certified Master Spray Tan Artist in Columbia, IL (just outside of STL). Missy has trained with some of the best in the industry, spent lots of time learning the craft, and is AMAZING at what she does, plus her personality is the sweetest!

The thing I love about her spray tans over Mystic Tan, which I have previously recommended, is that she can contour your body.  She can define your abs, your leg muscles and whatever else may need contoured to help you look your best in photos.  I’m already going to help you out with lighting/shadows/retouching, but this gives you an even bigger boost for your photos!

What does she offer?

She has several different options, but my favorite is the rapid airbrush tan because you can wash it off in 4 hours or so. The mini contouris included in this one, as well.  She also has the regular airbrush spray tan, a full body contour, AND hosts parties so you can make it a girls day! If you are a fitness competitor, be sure to look her up for your competitions as she is specially trained for that type of thing!

Everyone has a different skin type and tone, so Just Fakin Tans offers individualized light, medium, or dark tans to match any skin tone/type.

Prepping for your Spray Tan

Here are some tips to prep for your airbrush tan.

  • Book your spray tan TWO days prior to your boudoir session.
  • Shower the morning of or the night before your spray tan with little to no product on skin.
  • Exfoliate the day before using an oil-free scrub.
  • Shave the day before.
  • Come to your appointment with bare skin (i.e: no lotions, oils, deodorant, perfumes, etc.)
  • Bring loose, dark clothing for after your spray tan is complete.

Boudoir Session Prep//St. Louis, MO

Boudoir session prep is a question I answer a lot in emails to clients! There isn’t a lot to do thankfully, but there are some key points to consider when prepping for your session.  Be sure to read to the bottom because I have a checklist download for you!

To tan or not to tan?

This is probably the most asked question I get. I recommend spray tans, which I know some photographers are completely against.  I happen to love that glow you get with the spray tan.  I really like the mystic tan at Palm Beach Tan, but I know other salons have mystic tan booths as well. I also LOVE Just Fakin Tans as well.  I have had several clients use her, and the spray tan is flawless, plus she contours your body as well!

black lingerie//blonde hair//hair and makeup//cream chaise lounge//boudoir session prep//photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

One thing I will never ever recommend is tanning in the tanning bed.  I am not here to support skin cancer.

What to wear?

What to wear is probably the absolute most common boudoir session prep question I receive. I have so many what to wear options on this blog post.  It has tons of info about fitting and why or why not for certain types of outfits. If you are curvey, check out this post for tips to flatter your curves.

black lingerie//blonde hair//hair and makeup//blue velvet couch//boudoir session prep//photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

You will want to have 2-3 EXTRA outfits than what the allotted amount for your session.  This allows for extra if something just isn’t working or if we possibly have a little extra time.  You will also want at the minimum 2-3 bra and panty sets.  Be sure they are a size larger than you normally wear to prevent stretching of the lace and to prevent muffin tops!

Should you wax?

Don’t wax just because you are having a boudoir session.  But if you are a waxer, wax the week before to prevent bumps, redness, or rashes.

implied nude//thigh high black boots//boudoir session prep//photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

Some other things to consider for boudoir session prep.

  • Drink lots of water the week before the session.  Hydration is important for glowing skin!
  • Eat your fruits and veggies the week before.  I’m not saying go on a crazy diet.  What I mean is just watch the salty/high fat snacks to prevent bloating!
  • Moisturize the week before, and especially the day of your session for smooth, glowing skin.
  • Come with clean, dry hair and a clean face for hair and makeup, unless otherwise discussed.

Curves and Boudoir Photography

Women come in all shapes and sizes.  Beauty is found in every single person.  There’s a difference in the confidence and attitudes of plus size women.  While some women embrace their curves, others are embarrassed. My mission in life is to help show every woman how gorgeous they are – just as they are, right now, through boudoir photography in my St. Louis, MO studio.  Step one in this process is knowing what to wear to flatter your figure.  Also, see a past boudoir session of a curvy client. I will take care of the rest once you are in the studio!

women with curves//cheetah print sweater//black lace underwear//thigh high stockings//white fur rug//composite boudoir photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

Accentuating your curves

I love the clothing choice in the above photo.  The cropped sweater was tighter at the waist giving the illusion that her waist is smaller than it is.  Halley is one of those curvey women with a smaller waist, and this sweater definitely accentuated it.  She also chose black cheeky underwear that were a size too big, which allowed her to pull them a bit higher on her waist, lengthening her legs and showing off her curves even better.

Another way to do this is to have a loose yet fitted sweater. A favorite of mine is an off the shoulder sweater.  Check this one out from torrid. Maybe I love this one so much because I love faded colors right now?  Another option is this one from Amazon.  P.S. Navy looks so good in the studio.

black body suit//shadows//chaise lounge//curves//plus-sized women//photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

Bodysuits are tough. You really want to avoid bodysuits that aren’t a thong because they aren’t as flattering without the thong cut on bottom. Plus-sized stores don’t often have thong booty bodysuits, but I found a few options on Amazon.  This lace one is my favorite.

Forever21 also has very cute options. They are high waisted and typically either cheeky or thongs. Also, this bodysuit is one of my favorites from their online store.

High-waisted underwear

High-waisted underwear does the same thing that the cropped sweater does to accentuate your curves. It finds the smallest part of your waist line and hugs it. The trick with this is similar to the bodysuit issue.  You want wear cheeky or thong underwear.  Bikinis and boy shorts aren’t super flattering to your booty.  We have to show that thing off, right?

black high waisted panties//curves//plus-sized women//photo by Boudoir by Tracy lynn//see more at

I particularly love these high waisted underwear from Torrid. Another option is this black bra/panty set from Amazon, which is one of the cutest I have seen.  It can be a bit risky to buy your lingerie without trying it on first, though; you never really know how the underwear will fit when ordering off Amazon.  Hopefully, if you order far enough in advance, you can return them if they don’t fit– this will give you ample time to get the size you need!

Robes are a great option as an accessory or even as a way to cover up those areas you prefer to hide. My favorite time to use a robe is in sitting poses.  All women, no matter the size, have a skin roll at your stomach while sitting.  Robes are the perfect way to hide those little “imperfections”. It’s a great clothing option to add something a little different in your boudoir album as well. See the photos below to see how we incorporated one in this client’s session.

Lengthen your legs

They say the longer you are, the thinner you look, right?  Thus Pumps are probably the best option in this scenario because it gives you a few extra inches from heel to the toe of the pump on top of the 4-5 inches of the stiletto.  Speaking of, some of you love wedges, but please know wedges don’t photograph very well. I keep a pair of black 6’s, 7.5’s, and 9’s in the studio. Most women will fit in one of those sizes.  If not, check out Amazon for a pair of standard black pumps. It should be a staple in your closet anyway right?

If you are short, don’t wear thigh high anything (socks, shoes, etc) in your photos.  It will shorten your legs way too much!

Things curvey women should avoid

I am not going to show samples of this bullet point.  That’s not fair to anyone! These points are standard no-no’s for all sizes, not just curvey women.

  • Corsets.
  • Jeans. This is hard no matter your size.  If you choose the exact right pair of jeans, the photos turn out amazing.  If you don’t, they are a total flop. It’s a tough one to get right.
  • Boy shorts or bikini underwear.
  • Sheer anything. It sounds good in theory.  It just doesn’t photograph well.
  • Wedge shoes.

Final thoughts

What to wear is just the basics of how to get the most out of your boudoir photography session, whether you have curves or not.  Trust me when I tell you that I will pose you from head to fingers to toes– no need to worry at all about that!  Your boudoir session will be a day of pampering followed by the experience of a lifetime which will have you leaving you feeling better than Beyonce. Your confidence will skyrocket, and your man will have an album he won’t want to put down!

What are some clothing options you have thought about wearing to a boudoir session? I would love to hear from you. Join my email list (top left if you are browsing from your computer) and let me know your thoughts!

Boudoir Pinterest Board

Pinterest is my guilty pleasure. Do I ever actually use it for crafts or DIY projects? Nope. I’ll never be a super crafty person.

So, what do I do on Pinterest? I scroll through at night looking for places I would love to travel, browse the humor, and look for recipes (I actually do cook these) to help myself wind down from a day of work. I also love to pin to my boudoir Pinterest board.

Honestly though, for women of all ages- from brides (or soon to be brides), to newlyweds, and to moms, Pinterest is kind of awesome.

Why Check out Pinterest for Boudoir  Inspiration?

Most photographers cringe when they hear “I have a Pinterest board. Do you want to see my inspiration?” I don’t! I love Pinterest boards and I really do think there is a ton of inspo on it! I may not copy the exact pose you bring in, but what I love is seeing what everyone else loves.

There are so many pins on Pinterest that you can definitely get inspired. Plus, the fashion and the hair and makeup tend to lean towards the current trends and that makes me happy. We all want to be trendy, right? Especially now since fashion is so much better than it was ten years ago (or is that just my opinion)?

What are on my Boudoir Pinterest Boards?

I do have Pinterest boards for photography- suggestions for what to wear, hair and makeup, and poses(although don’t worry, I pose you from head to toe). I also have boards my clients would possibly enjoy following! I try very hard to pin 8-10 different pins every day, so there is always new content out there! Here is a screenshot so you can see my Pinterest. I would love it if you follow!

I have clients from 20-55, so I want to be able to share something on my Pinterest for everyone. Body positivity, travel plans, fashion, home decor, local shops, exercise and nutrition are a few of the boards.

For my brides, I have a board literally “For the Brides”. I love to pin wedding inspiration, honeymoon destinations that sound fun, local vendors, and of course a few boudoir photos. I also have a local STL wedding vendor board that my St. Louis, MO brides should definitely check out.

For the moms and moms to be, I have some boards specifically for you. My baby fever board is for the moms to be.

I also have a board for parenting. It has kid-friendly restaurants in STL, travel ideas, recipes, and more. Some of the family-friendly vacations look like somewhere I would love to go as well!

I would love for you to follow my boards. I will do my best to follow you back as well!

5 Things NOT to Bring to your Boudoir Session

Preparing for the Boudoir Session

I love writing about how to prepare and what to expect for your boudoir session. I think it’s especially important to know what to bring in so far as flattering outfits that will help your sexiest self shine in the photographs. Boudoir photography is all about self-confidence and showing your best self– I want that for all of my clients! While I focus so much on what to bring, I have made a list of what NOT to bring based on my experience in my studio.

What NOT to Bring

  • Long necklaces

In my experience, long necklaces just don’t lay very beautifully and can make an otherwise gorgeous photo look off. Of course, if you have a necklace that is meaningful and sentimental, we can make it work! But I highly advise against any sort of costume jewelry– in this case, less is more.

  • Kitten Heels

I know, this seems counterintuitive– boudoir photographs are supposed to be sexy and what’s sexier than kitten heels? Well, a lot of things! These are YOUR photos and unless kitten heels are truly your personality and you wear them all the time, don’t go buy any for your session or leave them in your closet. I promise you will look sexy without them!

  • Tight Clothes

Any bras that are too tight, underwear that digs into your skin, jeans that are tight around the waist, leave them at home. Always size up for boudoir sessions– always! You want to dress for your body and love your body! It’s not worth wearing a smaller size for the sake of it and then having unflattering pinching in photographs. Save yourself the trouble! Treat yourself to a new bra and panties set that fit you like a glove and don’t squeeze you in. For ideas and inspiration on how to dress for your body for a boudoir session, check out my series of outfit ideas.

Ok, my next two items are not tangible but still so important!

  • Attitude is everything

Do try to leave any negativity at home. If some follows you to the studio, I’ll help you shake it and make it a possible experience! But do your best to be open to the experience! I know it’s a new venture for many of my clients but I promise you it will be a great day! And positive vibes make it even better! And if you’re feeling positive on the inside, it will make for better photographs.

  • This Misconception

Forget the notion that this is all for your significant other. Of course, it can make for a gift for your special someone but when it comes down to it, it’s for YOU as well. The day is really all about you and giving you the space to feel your sexiest. Helping women realize their (awesomeness) is what gets me going everyday– Boudoir is absolutely for the woman (maybe even more so than your significant other!) When it’s all said and done and you have your album and maybe a wall portrait, you’ll realize that this experience is definitely about you as well!
