Body Confidence//Loving Yourself//St. Louis

Boudoir photography is typically thought of as something a woman does for her man.  I see it as something you do for yourself with the additional perk of gifting your fiancé, husband, or boyfriend a beautiful album in the end. Body confidence is my end goal.

Body Confidence and Loving Yourself

I think all women, no matter the size, struggle with body confidence.  It’s just something we all deal with.  We have a certain angle we prefer with selfies. We have a better side or we hate our profile.  Most of this is in our heads and no one else actually sees it, but we still deal with it every single day.

The most important thing you can do is not compare yourself to others! You are beautiful just as you are! Boudoir photography can show you this.

Testimonials

I have had so many women see a huge change in their mindset after their session.  During a recent session, I had a client cry seeing herself in the photos, not because she hated what she saw.  She cried because she LOVED what she saw.  This client has a daughter and in her photos she saw the stretch marks that came from pregnancy and creating life. It was so powerful!

I have had clients see their cellulite and realize that it’s not a bad thing! It’s something we all have (yes even tiny models). Clients with scars specifically ask me not to remove them in the photos because they make them who they are.  Some hate one side of their profile so much, but when they see the images, they don’t even notice their profile. I seriously love seeing clients learning to love themselves after sessions.  It’s why I do what I do!

Everyone is Nervous.

Just know that almost every client is nervous before their boudoir photography session. It’s normal! I have mimosas. My studio is a judgement free zone.  And we will most definitely have a blast!

Boudoir is for Every.Body

Plus Size Boudoir

Women come in all shapes and sizes.  Beauty is found in every single person.  There’s a difference in the confidence and attitudes of plus size women.  While some women embrace their curves, others are embarrassed. My mission in life is to help show every woman how gorgeous they are – just as they are, right now, through boudoir photography in my St. Louis, MO studio.  Step one in this plus size boudoir process is knowing what to wear to flatter your figure.  Also, see a past boudoir session of a curvy client. I will take care of the rest once you are in the studio!

Accentuating your curves

I love the clothing choice in the above photo.  The cropped sweater was tighter at the waist giving the illusion that her waist is smaller than it is.  Halley is one of those curvey women with a smaller waist, and this sweater definitely accentuated it.  She also chose black cheeky underwear that were a size too big, which allowed her to pull them a bit higher on her waist, lengthening her legs and showing off her curves even better.

Another way to do this is to have a loose yet fitted sweater. A favorite of mine is an off the shoulder sweater.  Check this one out from torrid. Maybe I love this one so much because I love faded colors right now?  Another option is this one from Amazon.  P.S. Navy looks so good in the studio.

Bodysuits

black body suit//shadows//chaise lounge//curves//plus-sized women//see more at boudoirbytracylynn.com// photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn of STL.

Bodysuits are tough. You really want to avoid bodysuits that aren’t a thong because they aren’t as flattering without the thong cut on bottom. Plus-sized stores don’t often have thong booty bodysuits, but I found a few options on Amazon.  This lace one is my favorite.

Forever21 also has very cute options. They are high waisted and typically either cheeky or thongs. Also, this bodysuit is one of my favorites from their online store.

High-waisted underwear

High-waisted underwear does the same thing that the cropped sweater does to accentuate your curves. It finds the smallest part of your waist line and hugs it. The trick with this is similar to the bodysuit issue.  You want wear cheeky or thong underwear.  Bikinis and boy shorts aren’t super flattering to your booty.  We have to show that thing off, right?

black high waisted panties//curves//plus-sized women//see more at boudoirbytracylynn.com// photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn of STL.

I particularly love these high waisted underwear from Torrid. Another option is this black bra/panty set from Amazon, which is one of the cutest I have seen.  It can be a bit risky to buy your lingerie without trying it on first, though; you never really know how the underwear will fit when ordering off Amazon.  Hopefully, if you order far enough in advance, you can return them if they don’t fit– this will give you ample time to get the size you need!

Robes

Robes are a great option as an accessory or even as a way to cover up those areas you prefer to hide. My favorite time to use a robe is in sitting poses.  All women, no matter the size, have a skin roll at your stomach while sitting.  Robes are the perfect way to hide those little “imperfections”. It’s a great clothing option to add something a little different in your boudoir album as well. See the photos below to see how we incorporated one in this client’s session.

Lengthen your legs

They say the longer you are, the thinner you look, right?  Thus Pumps are probably the best option in this scenario because it gives you a few extra inches from heel to the toe of the pump on top of the 4-5 inches of the stiletto.  Speaking of, some of you love wedges, but please know wedges don’t photograph very well. I keep a pair of black 6’s, 7.5’s, and 9’s in the studio. Most women will fit in one of those sizes.  If not, check out Amazon for a pair of standard black pumps. It should be a staple in your closet anyway right?

If you are short, don’t wear thigh high anything (socks, shoes, etc) in your photos.  It will shorten your legs way too much!

black bodysuit//cream chaise lounge// curves//plus size boudoir//see more at boudoirbytracylynn.com// photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn of STL.

Things curvey women should avoid

I am not going to show samples of this bullet point.  That’s not fair to anyone! These points are standard no-no’s for all sizes, not just curvey women.

  • Corsets.
  • Jeans. This is hard no matter your size.  If you choose the exact right pair of jeans, the photos turn out amazing.  If you don’t, they are a total flop. It’s a tough one to get right.
  • Boy shorts or bikini underwear.
  • Sheer anything. It sounds good in theory.  It just doesn’t photograph well.
  • Wedge shoes.

Final thoughts

What to wear is just the basics of how to get the most out of your boudoir photography session, whether you have curves or not.  Trust me when I tell you that I will pose you from head to fingers to toes– no need to worry at all about that!  Your boudoir session will be a day of pampering followed by the experience of a lifetime which will have you leaving you feeling better than Beyonce. Your confidence will skyrocket, and your man will have an album he won’t want to put down!

What are some clothing options you have thought about wearing to a boudoir session? I would love to hear from you. Join my email list (top left if you are browsing from your computer) and let me know your thoughts!

Boudoir Photography Facebook Group

Everyone has a Facebook profile these days, right?  I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook, but nonetheless I am on it every day! One thing I love about Facebook is my Facebook group, Boudoir by Tracy Lynn-  The Private Group.

If you’ve followed my blog for long at all, you know I think boudoir sessions can change your life and outlook on yourself and your body. The Facebook group has been discussing this topic all month and I love the responses!

see more at boudoirbytracylynn.com// photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn of STL.

Boudoir and Confidence Issues

One of the group members was discussing how she doesn’t feel beautiful and couldn’t see herself doing a session.

Before I go further, I want to mention I don’t check social media super often.  Occasionally, I will go a few days without checking the posts in the group, but everyone is so great about chiming in when needed.

Back to this post I was talking about.  A few of my previous clients took the time to comment about how their session changed their lives.  Not only did they have beautiful photos, but they were able to see themselves completely differently than they did before.

A comment on the post

“I used to feel this way too but then I did a session with Tracy and she makes you feel amazing in your own skin. I’m a mom of 4 and my body is not anywhere near some of the more model types… my pictures turned out absolutely stunning. I was very apprehensive about doing a session because I couldn’t picture myself looking good photographed that way either. After my session she completely changed my way of thinking about how I looked at myself and other women. We can all look beautiful photographed this way because we are all beautiful no matter what shape or size we are.”

outdoor boudoir photo//green lace bodysuit//rocks in creek//laying down pose//see more at boudoirbytracylynn.com// photo by Boudoir by Tracy Lynn of STL.

And another…

“No matter what size a woman is, we have all had our struggles. I was anorexic for many many years and still struggle with it at times. It left me with a horrible body image and much self-loathing. At the age of 36, I still couldn’t accept myself and my body….

Then, I found Tracy and I knew that I needed to do something so I could see myself as beautiful as others do. Doing this photo shoot was one of the best things I could have done for myself. Tracy will tell you that I was extremely hard on myself when I saw the photos for the first time. All I saw were the flaws and imperfections. But then she helped me see the beauty in my photos and in myself. Now I am so proud of how I look and how the photos turned out. I show everyone I can! And when I see one of my photos posted on FB or Instagram, it just lights up my day. Take a chance on yourself and know you are beautiful. :)”

More about the group

This specific post was about whether or not you could ever see yourself doing more than one session. So many of my previous clients chimed in and said absolutely! Many have already scheduled their next session because they feel so empowered and so beautiful in their own skin- seriously, my job is amazing.

Not only do we talk about empowerment and confidence, but we also talk about weddings, Netflix, books, wardrobe, tans, makeup and hair, and anything else you can think of! I also host a weekly drawing for a Starbucks gift card! Who doesn’t want that?

The best part?

Take a minute to join the group and the conversation!

Boudoir Photos for the Empowered Woman

A few weeks ago, I spoke with and then photographed Missy Bliss, an intimacy coach in the South St. Louis area. She actually coaches one of my clients, who recommended I contact her. Several times this year I have mentioned that 2018 is the year we need to learn to love ourselves through boudoir photos and other means.  With a team behind you, I definitely think you can!

This article was written by Missy, of The Magnificent Woman. To find out more about her services, or to become a client, email her at themagnificentwoman@gmail.com.

The Wholly Empowered Woman: I took Boudoir Photos In My Underwear and I Don’t Regret It At All.

Part of being good at what I do as an Intimacy Coach is being a phenomenal leader. That’s why, after finding myself with the opportunity to have a fancy boudoir photo shoot with a very talented local photographer, I literally jumped out of my chair shouting “YES!”

Little did I know, I was signing up for a rollercoaster ride of emotions, forced to deal with things I thought I’d already conquered. Building body confidence is no joke.

After ending my conversation with a very well known and very talented local photographer, Tracy Lynn, I was grinning from ear to ear. I had agreed to take boudoir photos in lingerie and post them for the whole world to see.

We were going to share these photos far and wide, and they were going to represent something Tracy and I are both deeply passionate about, women being proud of their real life bodies.

A few more minutes of initial excitement passed and then it hit me… I had just agreed to take photographs in lingerie and allow the whole world to see them.

Cue Critical Thoughts

I have birthed and nursed two children. My love affair with brownies is serious and legitimate. That big scar on my right knee from the bike accident in the sixth grade is still visible.

What’s my Mom going to think of these boudoir photos? Will my man be okay with this? I need to call my personal trainer and tell him we need to ramp it up big time. Shopping for the perfect outfit is a must do. Do people still tan? Will it look like I think too highly of myself? I’m proud of these stretch marks, but I have no idea if they photograph well. Wait, am I actually proud of these stretch marks?

I have spent nearly a decade teaching women to fall madly in love with themselves, but people are often confused about what I actually do.

Intimacy isn’t just about sexy time with your partner. It’s about telling the truth about who you are, even if you can be rejected, telling the truth to yourself to begin to build a wild and sustainable romance with who you are behind the smile, clothes, and lifestyle. The goal is to learn to love yourself so deeply and purely that the rest of your world naturally falls into alignment.

The Road to the Session

The weeks leading up to my photoshoot were difficult. It was so hard to determine where I actually stood with  it. I love seeing women photographed in their glorious authentic bodies. I should be good to go, right?

I’m fit, but I’m fit-ish. Observation of Taco Tuesday is a religious and spiritual practice, but hey, I burn those calories. Though I am in my mid thirties,  I look slightly younger. I know how to dress for my body shape, what makeup looks best on me in photographs, and I’m a freaking leader in this community. I’VE GOT THIS! Everytime a critical thought popped up I would repeat my go-to mantra “I AM ENOUGH!”

Little by little, I could feel the anxiety gently turning back into excitement. I was on a roll with my workouts, went tanning, and, to my delight, everyone I told about my upcoming shoot was deeply supportive. Whenever I stopped to look into a mirror I would affirm that even if Tracy and I only empowered one woman to love herself more through these boudoir photos, that was enough for me.

The Session

The morning of the photoshoot was cold and grey. I arrived for hair and makeup a few minutes early, thinking very seriously about running in the opposite direction. Instead, I kept repeating “I AM ENOUGH!” in my mind.

I walked in to The Blowout Bar and was greeted by my lovely hair and makeup genius, Kendra.  The whole process went by without a hiccup. I left feeling so glamorous in those big makeup lights and ready for the camera! Tracy’s chic loft studio is located in one of the hippest neighborhoods our city has to offer. There was definitely a subtle energy of style and sophistication when walking up to the building.

After being buzzed in, I took the elevator up, breathing deeply the whole time, holding a bag filled with gorgeous lingerie and shoes, ready to use them. It was finally happening!

I felt right at home walking into the studio. The sky was grey outside, but it was so warm and cozy inside. She talked with me for a bit, putting some more of my critical thoughts to rest, and then gave me the tour.

We looked through my wardrobe options and then she closed the door to the large dressing room. Suddenly it was me, in my gorgeous hair and makeup, practically naked in front of the mirror.

“I Am Enough”

I don’t think I actually thought about how to pose my body once before that moment. Luckily, Tracy knew just what to do. “Turn your head a few degrees toward the ceiling.” “Lift your back” “Look at this spot on the wall” “Breathe all the way out and twist.”

After this session, I have a new respect for models! It wasn’t an easy thing to do at all. I held the poses like I would in yoga, breathing through them and listening to my body, and loving myself for being brave enough to show up.

Tracy showed me the boudoir photos as she took them. She used them to both empower me to see my beauty and to show me which poses worked best for my body. We used the in between time to discuss our shared passion for empowering women to love themselves. Several wardrobe changes and countless laughs later we were all done.

In about a day I was choosing from the proofs that made my eyes swell with tears. I actually did it and I was so happy I did. The boudoir photos were stunning. Here I was, Intimacy Coach Missy Bliss, falling in love with my real life body again.

The Lesson a Boudoir Shoot Can Teach

The lesson I re-learned from this is your real life authentic body looks like anything you want it to look like. Maybe you do workout before, or maybe you don’t. If you go tanning or wear a push up bra or not, it’s up to you. You decide how much makeup, what lingerie, and what makes you feel good about you. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone, but no one wants you to feel like someone else completely.

These are gorgeous boudoir photos of the real you, whatever that means to you. I often tell my clients that radical self love is not optional. I am so glad I took my own advice. After two babies and a lifetime of life, I am very proud of the work Tracy and I have done.

Mother’s Day is right around the corner with Father’s Day not far behind. Spa Day

The Four Seasons Hotel Spa.  So I have always wanted to go to this spa but haven’t made time.  They have a Bissinger’s Chocolate Spa Treatment, which sold me with that name.  The spa uses the cacao to exfoliate and then use cocoa butter to moisturize, plus you get to leave smelling like the Caramel Room, which is reason enough for me.

If you aren’t interested in the chocolate experience, regular spa treatments, massages, manicures, pedicures, and facials are also offered.

Self Confidence and Boudoir Photos//St. Louis, MO

Body image and confidence…  The client in the gym every day of the week who is a size 00 finds something to compromise her confidence. I have had plus size clients with gorgeous hair, skin, beautiful curves with confidence issues as well. The point is, we could all use a boost in confidence.

Putting Others First

As women, we tend to put others ahead of ourselves. Woman balance  commitments, jobs, appointments, crazy, changing schedules. There is a constant demand for our attention. My clients are mothers, wives, girlfriends, students, caretakers, and/or mediators of never ending family drama.  It’s an exhausting cycle, which ends with us falling in bed at night, not remembering who we really are. Sure, sure… an occasional purchase of a new pair of jeans, make-up, or even jewelry, maybe a pedicure and manicure. If you think about it, how long do those treats give you that lasting confident feeling? Not long, right? Yep, you’re dragged back into the mundane and constant care of others.

Here’s the point ladies. You are amazing, and if you took some time you would see that you deserve much more. It is easy to find yourself in a rut and tell yourself you don’t need to be spoiled. Take the time to simply indulge in a consult with me. Clients find that they have a sense of ease with me. I understand that imagining yourself in front of a camera with someone you hardly know can be daunting.  I love getting to know you at the initial consult.

Our session together is super personal. The time with me is all about you. Mimosas to start, hair and makeup to feel your best, and time in front of the camera to prove your beauty!

New Found Confidence

I am proud to say that I have been able to exceed client exceptions in sessions.  Many women leave their sessions with a new found confidence. After seeing your photos, you can be confident in knowing that you really are gorgeous!

The year 2018 is the year to learn to love yourself. Boudoir by Tracy Lynn has started off with a bang! Clients tell me at the session or consult this is as gift for their significant other as well as a gift for themselves. All shapes and sizes have been in and every one has left feeling like a new woman.

Your experience can be life changing. I want your session with me to positively impact the current chapter of life and your future self. Several clients have explained the life changing confidence they have gained which caused them to switch gears in their career to help other woman with confidence and body issues. It gives me “happy chills.” I love inspiring women to love themselves. Flaws are a sign of love, commitment, and hard work! Who you are as a confident, strong woman should be celebrated, not shamed and ridiculed.

Most Recent Testimonial from Heather

“The morning of my session, my significant other is watching me run around the house preparing everything I needed for his big birthday gift. He knew how anxious I was. This is totally outside of my comfort zone even though it was my idea. I wanted him to have something really special. He is an amazing person and deserves it. On the way to the shoot, driving in the car, he takes my hand and tells me that it’s all going to be fine, not to be nervous. He went on to tell me that he hopes that the photos show me how he looks at me every day. I am a very harsh judge on myself and don’t take compliments well. Tracy made me feel so comfortable in my own skin and the outcome was more than I could have asked for.

The ordering session was great, being able to see myself through her lens in a way I had never looked at myself before. For the first time in our relationship, I know how he sees me. I have never felt more beautiful and confident in myself.

The Best Part

The best part of this experience was that when the album was given to my boyfriend, he told me that he loved it but the real gift was how it made me feel. He saw the confidence that it gave me and he said I was glowing now. It’s amazing how a photo session can change your whole life. It has inspired me to work towards becoming a personal trainer and a fitness model. Instilling the feelings that Tracy gave me through something that wasn’t even supposed to be about me at all.
