Wedding Day Timeline//STL

A lot of my clients are brides who’ve recently gotten engaged. By the way, congratulations.  Little known fact, I use to photograph weddings.  I thought it would be good to discuss a wedding day timeline so you kind of have an overview of how the day may go.

First things first.

I recommend having your wedding planner and your wedding photographer help refine your timeline. They will know the time they need and the small details right now, though, you just need an overview of how the day will likely go so you can start making the bigger wedding day decisions.  That’s the purpose of this blog!

Wedding Day Timeline

Let’s say your ceremony starts at 5:30 during the month of May and it’s a 30 minute ceremony.  You will plan the rest of your wedding day around that start time. This is based on 10 hour wedding day coverage for the photographer.

  • 1:30 Photographer arrives
    • Hair and makeup done and the bride ready to get dressed.
    • Detail shots of the dress, shoes, rings, etc.
  • 2:00 Grooms/ Groomsmen portraits and getting ready photos.
  • 2:30 Bride gets dressed.
    • The bridesmaids are dressed and ready to be in the background of the photos
  • 3:00 Bride and Groom wedding day gift exchange.
  • 3:30 Bridal Portraits
  • 3:45 Bridesmaids Photos
  • 4:00 First Look
  • 4:10 Bride and Groom Photos
  • 4:40-5:15 Wedding Party and Family Photos
  • 5:30 Ceremony
  • 6:15 Cocktail hour
  • 7:00- sunset photos
  • 7:15 Dinner
  • 7:30 Grand entrance and First Dance
  • 7:40 Welcome toasts and dinner
  • 8:30 Bridal Party Toasts
  • 8:45 Parent Dances
  • 9:15 Cake cutting/Bouquet Toss/Garter Toss
  • 9:30 Open Dance Floor
  • 11:30 Grand Exit

Things to Change

Obviously, there are a lot of things that can change in the timeline.  I definitely recommend adding buffer time to be sure you don’t run late throughout the wedding day. Depending on the time of the year, you may need to adjust the time of day as far as sunset photos, and the ceremony.  All of these are things to discuss with your wedding planner and your photographer. They will help you make the best decisions to be sure your day is absolutely perfect!

wedding plan timeline//celebration//happy new year//see more at

Again congratulations to all the newly engaged girls out there! I really am so happy for you!

Be the first to know!

Groom’s Gift: A Bridal Boudoir Album

A bridal boudoir sessions makes the perfect groom’s gift for the wedding day. It’s an intimate gift he will never forget and will appreciate forever. Remember, your wedding day is a day that won’t happen again. This album will help you both cherish the day even more than you already will.

The Groom’s Gift: How to Give it to Him

What I really want to talk about, though, is how to gift it to him.  This is a common question I get from my brides.  There are so many options!

bridal boudoir//grooms gift//sheer curtains//implied nude//see more at

The Wedding Day

You are giving him a gift anyway, so the obvious answer is to give it to him when the bride traditionally gives the groom his gift. I have had several clients gift it this way, but it honestly depends on your comfort level.  The only thing I recommend is making sure his groomsmen aren’t around when he opens it in this situation!

groom's gift//boudoir album//see more at

Another option is to give him a super sweet note explaining that he will get his gift later and it will be worth the wait. Maybe even give him a sneak peak of one of the photos.  Some of my brides add on The Miami album that I offer, which is small folio album perfect for his desk. This album could have a less risqué photos in it that would be nice for him to have in the office.

After the Rehearsal Dinner

Most couples spend a few minutes after the rehearsal dinner alone before the go their separate ways for the night. At this point some bride’s give the groom’s gift to him so she can see his reaction first hand.  This is a super sweet and intimate way to get excited for the wedding day!

Wedding Night

After the wedding, you will both be so exhausted from such a long and super fun day! What better way than to come back home(or to your hotel room) than to have your album laid out on the bed waiting for him to open?

groom's gift//wedding night//bridal boudoir session// see more at

At the Honeymoon

One other option is to give the groom’s gift on the honeymoon! What a way to extend the wedding excitement than to wait to give him the gift after the wedding is over.  The only problem with I can see with this is packing it around for a few weeks if you are taking a long honeymoon! Otherwise this is a great idea. 🙂

By the way, for honeymoon destination ideas, check out this blog post.

The Groom’s Gift

Whatever way you decide, he is going to love the album because he loves you. These are just a few options of how to gift it to him, but there are so many other ways!

Remember, although this gift is for him, it’s also a gift for you. Going into the wedding, you will have all of the confidence in the world after I show you how truly beautiful you are during your boudoir session.

Book your session about 2-3 months prior to your wedding to give me plenty of time to perfect your album. It will be the most fun thing you do in preparation for the wedding.  I promise. 🙂

Honeymoon Destinations for the STL Couple

As a boudoir photographer, many of my clients are current brides.  After finding out all about the wedding, my favorite question to ask is all about honeymoon destinations!  My brides tend to end up in the Caribbean or Mexico, but a few of them are doing Greece or Ireland.

I decided to research the hotspots my St. Louis, MO bridal clients are visiting as honeymoon destinations in 2018.  Be sure to comment where you are going, or went for your honeymoon! I would LOVE to know!

P.S. All of the photos below are stock photos from since I have not had the good fortune to visit any of these beautiful places yet!

2018 Trends for Honeymoon Destinations

Like I said above, this blog post is strictly based on where my STL clients have said they are going for their honeymoons, not national trends.  I will list pros and cons of each as well!

It seems that MOST brides prefer the beach, and I really don’t blame them.  After the stress of planning a wedding, I would definitely want some downtime with a Piña Colada in my hand!

honeymoon destinations//the caribbean//mexico//ireland//greece//st louis brides//stl weddings// stock photo//see more at

The Caribbean

I am including all the islands in the Caribbean in this one.  Some prefer the Dominican, some are headed to Jamaica or the Bahamas, and some are island hopping, but no matter where you go, the beaches are sure to be beautiful.

honeymoon destinations//the caribbean//mexico//ireland//greece//st louis brides//stl weddings// stock photo//see more at

The all-inclusive resorts are obviously a big draw. One price so you know what you are spending up front.  You won’t have to worry about food/drinks since they are included.  It’s very private, peaceful, and gorgeous.  The resorts are safe, even if the island may not be the safest for tourists. There are lots of activities and games, or you can purchase excursions to visit the island.

Those excursions we were talking about before can get a bit pricey. After too many days of rest on the beach, you may be booking more than one, if you are like me and do not sit still well. Most of the resorts are super secluded, so the potential to meet locals is slim unless you venture out.  Some islands are harder to explore on your own, so visiting the towns may not be much of an option, which may cause the resort to get monotonous.

Even with the unrest in Mexico, many of my clients’ honeymoon destinations are in all-inclusive Mexican resorts.

Pros and Cons

Pros and cons for Mexico are pretty similar to the Caribbean.  It’s gorgeous, the food is good, and it’s quiet.  The biggest con is the danger at this point.  Before you book talk to your travel agent and check to see if there is a travel ban. Better safe than sorry!

My clients with honeymoon destinations in Mexico have said that they never felt in danger, so that is a positive.  🙂

Can you say bucket list vacation?  This has been on my list forever! I am sure everyone has seen the gorgeous photos of the towns built on cliffs with the blue, blue waters. Those photos are reason enough to want to visit.  It’s like another world! The information here mostly came from this blog.

It’s beautiful. Between the views and the sunsets, you will think you are in heaven. Greek food is great, plus it’s even better because it’s authentic. Be sure to switch islands.  Santorini, Mykonos, and Athens are the obvious choice when visiting Greece, but check out some of the lesser known islands as well!

From what I read, there were only two real cons. It’s expensive to visit Greece and the weather isn’t always crystal clear like in the photo above so you may miss out on those gorgeous sunsets you see on Pinterest. But still, it’s Greece.  It will be amazing.

honeymoon destinations//the caribbean//mexico//ireland//greece//st louis brides//stl weddings// stock photo//see more at

So many client’s honeymoon destinations are in Ireland, and I’ve had several friends visit, a few even multiple times.  After seeing their photos and the breathtaking views, it made it’s way on my bucket list!

Ireland seems super budget friendly for an international destination.  While I was researching, I looked up some flights and hotels.  I found round trip tickets with Wow Airlines for $349 each. You can’t even fly that cheap in the states! Plus you get 1 carry on and 1 checked bag.  Your biggest expense will probably be hotel accommodations, but there are some airbnbs that are super cute!

The scenery is beautiful, there is so much history to see, and from what everyone has told me about Ireland, the people are super friendly! Everyone has recommended a bus tour or renting a car and driving the country. Either way, you won’t be disappointed!

There doesn’t seem to be many cons to Ireland.  The biggest complaint seems to be that it’s a bit chilly in the winter, although the low in the winter is around 45 degrees.  During the summer it stays in the mid to upper 60’s.  This sounds pretty nice to me since I love hoodie weather!

Bridal Boudoir Photography

Brides are always looking for the perfect gift to give their groom.  More and more are trending towards a bridal boudoir album.  I personally think this is a great idea in this time in your life. Why?  Keep reading.

Bridal Boudoir– A gift for you AND for him.

I say this one a lot, but honestly, a bridal boudoir photography session is a gift for him as much as it is a gift for you.  You’re in a seriously stressful time in your life.  So much wedding planning is going on.  Dealing with your soon to be in-laws who don’t see things the way you do may be keeping you up at night.  So many decisions need to be made now and you only have so much time to get those invitations mailed out.  Your dress (try Ultimate Bride) needs to be altered, your awesome wedding planner( Megan Rusch Soirees is seriously good) has a few more questions, and your makeup artist (check out Savanah Summer Beauty) is ready to book your trial. A bridal boudoir session is the perfect excuse to put your phone in “do not disturb” mode for a couple of hours 😉

Celebrate You

A bridal boudoir session is a day to celebrate you.  You get to take the day to feel beautiful and pampered, sexy and like the most important person in the room. It’s empowering and it preps you for the amazingness of your wedding, the day you are part of the most important couple in the room.

He Will LOVE It

By the way, your groom will LOVE the gift.  Why wouldn’t he?  The woman he finds sexiest in the entire world gave him an album of herself in lingerie, his clothes, or some [implied] nudes. I know he already thinks he is the luckiest man in the world on his wedding day. And the album will be the cherry on top! My client, Liz (featured in this blog post), gave her fiancé his bridal boudoir album on the wedding day.  See his reaction below.

New Lingerie & Clothes

A lot of my clients tell me that their bridesmaids get them lingerie at the bachelorette party/bridal shower.  Perfect timing to wear it for your bridal boudoir session! This really is just another excuse to go shopping.  Besides, have you seen this cute bodysuit on Amazon?  If you need more “what to wear” suggestions, be sure to check out parts one, two, and three of my What to Wear to your Boudoir Session series on the blog.

More Reasons

Let’s be honest.  You are in the best shape of your life now.  Wedding shape is most likely the BEST shape you will ever be in.  All eyes will be on you that day. You’ve been working super hard to stay in/get in shape. You need to remember it.  A bridal boudoir session is the best time to honor that hard work. You will get to look back on that forever! I seriously wish I had an album like this to remember what I looked like 25 pounds lighter!

One more thing, right now you may not think this will be cool for your grand daughter to see one day. I want to tell you when I see photos from when my grandmothers were younger, it really touches my heart.  The images we take at your session will show no more than what your bathing suit would show(with some exceptions when requested).  Your grand daughter will seriously appreciate these when you’re 80.

Also get the album for the reason in this blog post.

When should you book?

Great question.  Be sure to book your session with a MINIMUM of 2 months to spare, so contact me with a 3-4 month window. I am booking about 4-6 weeks out at the moment, so the more time the better.   This allows time for retouching and ordering your custom album without the rush fee.

I really can’t wait to photograph your bridal boudoir session! Get in touch with me to book the most empowering day of your life. 🙂
